Some of you may have forgotten that we were awarding a $1000 prize to the best game developed within half of the length of the competition - The Dobbs Race-to-the-Finish Challenge. Now with just over a month to go until the end of the contest (which closes on June 12th) we are announcing the winner and the close runner-up (who recieves a Dr. Dobbs Bobblehead) to inspire you on the final stretch creating your own Dr. Dobbs game!Runner-up Tornado by Martin Szinger A fascinating total conversion of the Dr. Dobbs Challenge Deuce webgame, this turns the title into an equivalent to a ticket-redemption skill game that you would see in a Chuck E. Cheese or a Dave & Busters - simply click the mouse button when the light is in the section of the wheel that matches the color in the centre! While this perhaps sounds soporifically simple, the fact that as you do better the wheel spins faster makes this an addictive, just-one-more go kind of game, especially if you're the kind who loves to try and beat your own high score. You can play the game yourself here. (Note that the Silverlight file is 3mb, so may take a little while to download.) ![]() Winner Day of Ape by James Paulin An astonishingly accomplished total conversion of the Dr. Dobbs Challenge Deuce webgame (and as a result, a great example of just how easy to work with the code is) this turns the title into a overhead-perspective stealth action game where the player takes the role of a group of apes attempting to save other jungle animals from evil poachers! Great fun and reminiscent of the classic Sensible Software title Cannon Fodder, Day of Ape is honestly unmissable. Play it now here (but note that the Silverlight file is 8mb, and may take a while to download.) ![]() |
